Spell Typer

Spell Typer is a typing game where you type English spell words and phrases to cast magic and defeat monsters. Type the letters shown, including spaces. You can also switch to Japanese romaji prompts before choosing a stage. It is free, needs no account, and runs in your browser with a PC keyboard.

How to play

English spell names use English letters, and spaces count as keys too. Before choosing a stage, use Spell language to switch to Japanese (romaji). Your choice is remembered in this browser. In Japanese mode, the length ranges below count kana rather than key presses.

  1. Choose a stage. Only the first is open at the start. Clearing a stage unlocks the next.
  2. One spell card appears at the bottom of the screen, and its spell is shown large in the middle. Type the English letters shown, including spaces.
  3. Finish it without a miss to hit the enemy and raise the next card by one tier: Basic → Intermediate → Advanced → Ultimate → Chain.
  4. A single miss shatters the card and replaces it with a Basic card. The keys you typed for it are lost.
  5. After you finish an Ultimate card, a Chain begins and three cards line up. Type them from left to right, and the witch fires three big attacks in a row. You can keep typing the next three while she does.
  6. When the enemy’s attack gauge fills, it attacks. You have 100 HP, and you lose at 0. Press Esc to pause.
Tier Word length (keys) Damage multiplier Score multiplier
Basic 3 to 5 1 1
Intermediate 6 to 8 1.5 2
Advanced 9 to 12 2.2 4
Ultimate 13 to 30 4 8
Chain three cards of 6 to 8 4 plus a bonus per chain 8 plus 2 per chain
  • Damage: The number of correct keys times the tier’s multiplier.
  • Score: The sum of keys per tier times the score multiplier. The server calculates your score and keeps your best score for each stage.
  • Elements: Fire, ice, thunder, and light only change the visuals and are picked at random. They do not change your strength.

Stages

Stage Place Enemies
1 and 2 Graveyard of Violet Mist Slime, Goblin
3 and 4 Ivy-Covered Old Town Ice Golem, Thunderbird
5 and 6 Great Hall of the Old Castle Flame Demon, Dragon

Later stages have enemies with more HP and faster attack gauges. You can replay any stage you have cleared.

Levels and titles

EXP is the clear bonus plus bonuses for speed and accuracy, and an extra reward for a first clear. The server calculates your EXP. The level cap is 50.

There are 12 titles, including First Victory, Unscathed Mage, Dragon Slayer, and Conqueror of All Stages. Pick one of the titles you have earned to show in the top-left corner of the screen.

Mana Stones and enemy cards

  • Mana Stones: Each clear gives you Mana Stones equal to one tenth of your score, rounded up. Your first clear of a stage adds a bonus of 50 to 120. A loss gives none. For now you can only collect them; ways to spend them will come later.
  • Enemy cards: Every clear gives you one card of that stage’s enemy. A loss gives none. The server draws the card.
Rarity Normal clear Clear with at least one Ultimate card finished Clear with at least one Chain finished
Common 70% 55% 40%
Rare 22% 33% 44%
Super Rare 7% 10.5% 14%
Secret 1% 1.5% 2%

Duplicate cards stack. Open the Collection from the title screen or the stage select screen to see all 24 kinds (6 enemies × 4 rarities). Super Rare cards tilt with your mouse, and Secret cards bring the enemy to life.

FAQ

Is it free?

Yes. It is free and needs no account. Your level and titles are saved on the server as a record tied to this device.

Can I play on a smartphone?

It is a keyboard game, so please play on a computer. On a smartphone, the page shows a preview and a short guide instead.

How do I type spells or practice Japanese?

English is the default: type the letters shown and use the space bar for spaces. Choose Japanese (romaji) under Spell language before picking a stage to practice Japanese. That mode accepts alternatives such as shi/si and chi/ti, and its guide follows your input. Your choice is remembered in this browser.

Does leveling up make me stronger?

No. Your level only shows how much you have played. At Lv3 you learn ice, at Lv6 thunder, and at Lv10 light magic, which adds new spell visuals to your cards.
